Chapter 11: Mental Riot
“Not good! Phil is having a mental riot!”
“Quick, he’s lost his reason! Don’t let him get near the Male Lord!”
“Does anyone have an inhibitor? Who brought a high-effect inhibitor?!”
…
Chaos suddenly erupted in a corner of the training grounds.
Yan Mo looked over. The first thing he saw was a pair of blood-colored insect pupils. The Female in the throes of a mental riot had almost completely lost his reason. Insect markings spread from the back of his neck to his cheeks, densely covering his pale skin.
Yan Mo’s heart pounded, and at the same time, a strange perception rose within him. The direction where that Female was seemed to be shrouded in a layer of black silk nests, with flashes of white light in between, but that bit of white was quickly polluted and eroded by the black.
The event was sudden, and Yan Mo froze for a moment, standing dazed as if terrified by the Female’s insectified appearance.
In fact, he was indeed frightened; everything before him was beyond his cognition.
The Female in the mental riot seemed to sense Yan Mo’s presence. His pupils turned even more crimson. His arms extended, transforming into sharp, lethal claws as he lunged toward Yan Mo.
Yan Mo’s pupils shrank. He tried his best to dodge, but how could his speed match that of a semi-insectified soldier? He gritted his teeth. In the next second, a tall figure blocked the way in front of him, tightening his arms and holding him firmly in his embrace.
Yan Mo looked up and met Lan Ze’s crystal-like eyes. Compared to his usual calm indifference, they held a trace of anxiety and worry.
Lan Ze had chased after him from the office. The guard said Yan Mo had gone toward the training grounds. He was afraid the training soldiers might accidentally injure the Male, so he hurried over, just in time to see the riotous Female lunging at Yan Mo.
Lan Ze’s breath hitched. He sprinted toward Yan Mo, pulling the Male into his arms. His insect wings unfurled from his back, shielding the Male from the attack.
Seeing that the Male was unharmed, Lan Ze retracted his sharp wings. He kept Yan Mo behind him while simultaneously pressing his S-rank mental power like a torrential storm onto the semi-insectified Female.
The riotous Female was only B-rank. Even in a state where he had lost his reason, he was still rendered motionless by the mental pressure of a higher-ranking Female. His semi-insectified body trembled uncontrollably.
Lan Ze pulled out a high-effect inhibitor and injected it into the Female’s body. A few seconds later, the inhibitor began to take effect. The Female’s semi-insectified features gradually receded, and his red pupils began to return to normal.
“Take him to the infirmary and check his mental status.”
“Yes, Major General.”
Several Females carried the unconscious soldier toward the infirmary.
Lan Ze finished handling the sudden situation and turned back to look at Yan Mo.
The Male was standing there with a pale face, his slender figure looking like he might collapse if the wind blew.
Worry flickered in Lan Ze’s eyes. He walked toward Yan Mo, wanting to see if he was injured anywhere.
But he saw the Male recoil a step the moment he approached.
Lan Ze’s body stiffened, and he stopped in his tracks.
Yan Mo looked at Lan Ze in a daze. It wasn’t until the hand the Female had raised froze in mid-air and slowly dropped that he suddenly realized his behavior might have been hurtful.
Lan Ze had just saved him. He knew he should thank him, but that insectified Female had suddenly made him realize that all the people here, while they had human appearances, were ultimately not human. They were Zerg—a species different from him.
At this moment, a sense of urgency surged in his heart. He wanted to go to Planet 1347 to find a way home.
“I… I’m sorry…”
Lan Ze’s voice was calm. “Lord, I will take you to the hospital for an inspection.”
Lan Ze proactively stepped back a few paces, standing at a distance that would make the Male feel safe. His expression was indifferent, but a flash of gloom crossed his eyes.
He felt that Yan Mo was afraid of him. Was it because he had witnessed a Female insectify and thought he would become like that too? Was he afraid he would hurt him?
Hard claws, crimson pupils—that ugly appearance must be loathsome to a Male!
Would he be like other Males, then? Despising the blood and violence of Females, using a whip to tame him, or even tearing off his insect wings?
“Thank you. I… I’m not injured…”
Yan Mo saw Lan Ze’s head lower, and even his brilliant platinum hair seemed to dim a few shades.
“It is good that the Lord is not injured. You have been frightened today; please return and rest. Tomorrow morning, I will come to pick you up to go to Planet 1347.”
Yan Mo was surprised. “You’ve agreed to let me go to Planet 1347?”
“You may go wherever you wish. I have no authority to restrict your freedom. Please, punish me.”
Lan Ze knelt before Yan Mo in a posture of seeking punishment.
Yan Mo was startled by Lan Ze’s sudden action. Even the joy of knowing he could go to Planet 1347 was frightened away. He immediately stepped forward to help Lan Ze up.
“What are you doing? Get up quickly.”
In his time among the Zerg, Yan Mo had seen how Females and Males interacted on the Star Net.
Females had absolutely no dignity before their Male Masters. They bore the responsibility of protecting and caring for them, and they couldn’t show any offense or refuse any request.
But Efa Star was a military planet. In his time here, Yan Mo had only met Females and hadn’t seen how they interacted with Males in person.
Lan Ze’s sudden move made him realize that in their eyes, he was a Male.
But seeing the usually proud Female suddenly lower his head made Yan Mo feel very uncomfortable.
Lan Ze shouldn’t be like this.
He was a brilliant Major General of the military, the star of the Fourth Legion.
He should be killing interstellar beasts in the vast starry sky, not bowing his noble head to a Male.
“Stand up.”
Yan Mo grabbed Lan Ze’s arm. In that moment of trance, he suddenly smelled a faint scent of ink. Lan Ze’s ears turned red, and his breathing grew rapid.
It was Lord Yan Mo’s pheromones.
Lan Ze compliantly rose following Yan Mo’s strength.
Although he hadn’t gone when Yan Mo was discharged, as Yan Mo’s guardian, the attending physician had contacted Lan Ze to explain Yan Mo’s physical condition.
Lord Yan Mo had no health problems. The only issue was that his pheromones might have a genetic issue and couldn’t be monitored. This situation might improve after his secondary differentiation.
Lan Ze knew this, so even though he had never smelled Yan Mo’s pheromones over these past days, he wasn’t surprised.
This was the first time he had smelled Yan Mo’s pheromones.
Lord Yan Mo was likely close to his secondary differentiation.
“Lord, shall I have the guards escort you back? I still need to handle what just happened.”
Yan Mo said awkwardly, “Don’t speak to me like that.”
Lan Ze pursed his lips. But this tone was the one used by all Females in the galaxy toward their Male Masters. His earlier casual attitude was what would have been flagged by the Male Association.
It was Lord Yan Mo who had been too lenient before, making him forget that he was a Male—a noble Lord.
Recalling the fear and disgust in Yan Mo’s eyes, Lan Ze’s heart grew heavy. He wouldn’t forget again, and he wouldn’t harbor any more expectations.
Once Lord Yan Mo underwent his secondary differentiation, he would likely dissolve the guardianship.
“…”
Yan Mo saw Lan Ze remain silent. He paused and said, “Forget it. I’ll go back on my own. You go ahead and get busy.”
“I will take you back. Your pheromones are currently unstable, and you may be undergoing secondary differentiation. It is not safe for you to return alone.”
Yan Mo didn’t quite understand.
“What? Pheromones?”
He suddenly thought of the scientific explanations he had seen on the Star Net.
Pheromones were a scent on a Male that could soothe Females, purifying their polluted and riotous mental power.
Yan Mo’s understanding was that they were the “healers” of the Zerg race.
Females were responsible for using mental power and their strong bodies to fight, while Males were responsible for using pheromones to treat them.
Yan Mo sniffed but didn’t smell anything special.
He was human, not a Zerg. How could he have pheromones?
“Did you get it wrong? The doctor said I have a genetic issue and might not be able to undergo secondary differentiation—that I’ll never have pheromones in my life.”
