n Mo’s gaze swept coldly across Filo’s beaming face before he turned to leave.
Wiping the smile from his face, Filo hurried after him. He pulled out a card and offered it to Yan Mo.
“Lord, please consider it. This is my Light Brain ID. I hope to hear from you!”
Seeing the gesture, Yan Mo found it difficult to refuse again. He took the card and continued his search, visiting several other shops that had posted recruitment notices.
In every shop, the Female clerks initially greeted him with overwhelming enthusiasm. However, the moment they heard he was there to apply for a job, they were seized by panic and trepidation.
After several attempts, Yan Mo realized that finding work here was truly an impossible task and finally gave up.
The sky was beginning to darken. He had told Yinuo he would only be wandering around the hospital; having been out for so long without returning, Yinuo and the others were likely worried.
Given how much the Females here valued Males, Yan Mo suspected they might even launch a full-scale search for him.
Sure enough, upon returning to the hospital, he was met by a large crowd of medical staff, including Yinuo.
Yinuo was anxiously discussing something with the others. When he spotted Yan Mo, his eyes lit up, and he dashed over.
“Lord! Where did you go? I thought you were lost and was just about to organize a search party.”
Yan Mo looked past Yinuo at several tall Females in uniform. They were clearly Military Females.
The Planet Efa Military Hospital was backed by the military and maintained close ties with the legions; it seemed they had indeed borrowed several soldiers to look for him.
Yan Mo felt a stroke of relief that he had returned when he did.
“Yinuo, don’t worry. I was a bit bored, so I went for a stroll through the surrounding streets.”
“It’s enough that you’ve returned safely, Lord!” Yinuo sighed.
Yan Mo gave Yinuo a gentle smile.
“Ahem—”
Standing nearby, the Director cleared his throat and looked at Yan Mo with a stern expression.
“Forgive me, Lord, but today was very dangerous. You should not have left the hospital alone. For your safety, we will arrange a guardian for you as soon as possible.”
Yan Mo frowned. “I don’t—”
“Lord,” the Director interrupted, handing him a set of documents. “These are the profiles of the potential guardians sent by the Male Protection Association. Several candidates have already arrived on Planet Efa and are currently at the hospital. They are hoping to meet with you.”
Yan Mo felt a wave of irritation. He had no intention of being adopted, but the Director was resolute, leaving him no room to refuse.
The candidates were already waiting in the reception room. Given Yan Mo’s upbringing, he couldn’t bring himself to leave people waiting indefinitely.
“Very well. Please lead the way.”
The Director smiled with relief. Males were incredibly precious; despite his own influential background, he was loath to offend a noble Young Lord.
However, keeping an exceptionally handsome, pre-differentiation Male like Yan Mo in a military hospital for a long time was not ideal.
Males were delicate. Perhaps because he had come from a garbage planet, Yan Mo currently seemed polite and easy to talk to—vastly different from the arrogant Males found on more habitable planets.
But who could say if this gentle Lord would maintain his current temperament after witnessing the extreme devotion of the Females and the indulgence of the Male Protection Association?
There were many Females competing for the role of guardian. The Director had specifically arranged the largest reception room for the occasion.
These were all young Females, each tall and strikingly handsome. Based on their auras, it wasn’t hard to tell that a significant number were Military Females, though there were civilians among them as well.
Yan Mo even recognized one familiar face—a doctor who had treated him previously. He had swapped his white coat for formal attire and was looking toward Yan Mo with a nervous expression.
The moment Yan Mo stepped inside, countless pairs of eyes fixed on him simultaneously.
His ink-black eyes were darker than the midnight sky, reflecting light like brilliant stars scattered across the void. Though his frame was slender, it wasn’t frail, and his jade-white skin added a touch of ethereal coolness to his presence.
Yan Mo was accustomed to being stared at in awe, yet he was also confused.
Hadn’t they said they were choosing a guardian? Why did these Females all look to be roughly his own age?
Yan Mo turned a questioning gaze toward the Director.
The Director stepped forward and pointed to one of the Females. “Lord, this is Captain Mo Anli of the Fourth Army stationed on Planet Efa. Captain Mo Anli has fought against interstellar beasts many times and has achieved significant military distinction. He currently has millions of contribution points, tens of millions of Star Credits, and owns multiple properties on Planet Efa…”
Meeting Yan Mo’s gaze, Mo Anli straightened his back. Yan Mo caught a flash of shyness on the man’s resolute face and felt a wave of discomfort.
He must have misunderstood the situation. The Director wasn’t setting up an adoption; he was hosting a matchmaking event.
After listing Mo Anli’s various virtues, the Director pointed to another Female. “This is Mr. Laixi, an outstanding merchant…”
The Director continued to introduce them one by one. These Females represented various industries and were all exceptionally accomplished.
Yan Mo gradually realized the truth from the Director’s introductions: the so-called “guardians” were indeed prospective marriage partners.
Interrupting the Director’s rambling, Yan Mo said solemnly, “Director, I have no intention of looking for a Female Monarch at this time.”
He had already learned the Zerg terms for partners from the Light Brain.
The Director was taken aback, assuming Yan Mo was dissatisfied with the selection. “Do you find them lacking? These are among the finest Females on Planet Efa. If your level is high after your secondary differentiation, you could even take them as Female Attendants and choose an even more elite Female to be your Female Monarch…”
“No, they are all very capable, but I don’t need a Female Monarch or Female Attendants to look after me. I can live on my own.”
“My dear Lord,” the Director looked at Yan Mo with the indulgence one might show a stubborn child. “You are a Male; how could you possibly live without Females to care for you? Very well, since you dislike these candidates, I will inform the Male Protection Association to select a new group.”
“I—”
Yan Mo wanted to argue further.
Knock, knock, knock—
A steady, deliberate knock came from the door. A Military Female with a cold, hardened face appeared at the entrance, wearing a high-ranking uniform.
Guards followed behind him. Upon seeing him, the Director immediately stepped forward with a respectful bow.
Yan Mo guessed this soldier must hold a very high status.
The Director’s respectful voice confirmed it in the next moment: “Admiral Lan, what brings you here? Is there some urgent matter?”
Lan Hechen swept his gaze across the room full of Females before his eyes landed on Yan Mo.
“I heard that Lan Ze rescued a Male Lord from Garbage Planet 1347, so I came to take a look.”
Lan Hechen gave Yan Mo a slight nod. “I presume this is Lord Yan Mo.”
Yan Mo nodded in return. “Hello, Admiral Lan. I am Yan Mo.”
“Mm.”
Lan Hechen gestured toward the gathered Females. “Is this for selecting a suitable guardian for Lord Yan Mo?”
“Yes,” the Director replied, wondering if the Admiral’s sudden visit was because of Yan Mo.
Before he could dwell on it, Lan Hechen spoke: “I have come precisely for this matter. Lan Ze saved Lord Yan Mo. According to Interstellar Law, he has the right of first refusal to serve as Lord Yan Mo’s guardian.”
The Director froze. This was legally correct, but Major General Lan Ze had already been notified about the guardian selection.
He had initially expressed no interest in the role, which was why the Male Protection Association had prepared other candidates.
The Director glanced at Yan Mo. Though he was a Male, he hadn’t undergone secondary differentiation yet and was found on a garbage planet; there might even be genetic defects. There was no real reason for a Major General from the prestigious Lan Clan to insist on him.
The Director hadn’t been surprised when Lan Ze initially refused.
But now, Lan Ze’s father—Admiral Lan Hechen, the power behind the Fourth Army—had come in person to secure this guardianship for his son. What did this mean?
