Chapter 5: The Lifesaver
Yan Mo had only just learned the name of his lifesaver, and before he could even express his gratitude, the man’s father was already demanding he “repay” the favor with his hand in marriage.
He took a step forward, his expression sincere and his tone calm yet firm. “Admiral Lan? I am deeply grateful to Major General Lan Ze for saving my life, but marriage is a serious matter. I think we both need time to consider—”
“Lord.”
Lan Hechen’s piercing gaze met Yan Mo’s.
“If you are truly grateful, then allowing Lan Ze to become your guardian would be the greatest reward for him.”
“…Perhaps you should ask Major General Lan Ze what he thinks?”
Lan Ze had already rejected the Association once; Yan Mo was using this as a subtle way to decline.
Lan Hechen brushed the thought aside forcefully. “His thoughts are not important.”
It seemed there was no way out.
Yan Mo sighed inwardly. According to the Director, the Male Protection Association was determined to find him a Female companion before his secondary differentiation.
Since Lan Ze was his lifesaver and held the right of first refusal, Yan Mo had to accept the arrangement.
He had only been in this world for a few days and had already become someone’s “child groom.” It was quite a bizarre turn of events.
Yan Mo could only marvel at the unpredictability of fate.
Fortunately, Major General Lan Ze seemed uninterested in the role. Compared to the other “hungry” Females, Lan Ze felt like a safer choice for now.
The Male Protection Association was efficient; the relevant documents were processed quickly.
Yan Mo took the Light Brain handed to him by Lan Hechen’s subordinate and verified his genetic information. The screen displayed his new status:
Male: Yan Mo. Status: Pre-differentiation. Guardian: Lan Ze.
Having finally secured a legal identity in this strange world, one of Yan Mo’s major worries vanished.
Lan Ze was not present, but Lan Hechen, acting as his Female Father, was authorized to handle the discharge procedures on his behalf.
Yan Mo had nothing to pack. After saying goodbye to the medical staff who had cared for him, he left the hospital with Lan Hechen’s subordinate.
“The Admiral has urgent business to attend to. I will first take the Lord to Major General Lan Ze’s residence.”
Yan Mo naturally had no objection.
Kochen stole a glance at the handsome Male, worried he might be displeased.
Based on what had happened, it seemed that if Lan Ze hadn’t saved him, the Lord wouldn’t have chosen the Major General at all.
Males were notorious for their short tempers. With the Admiral leaving so abruptly, would the Lord feel he was being treated with a lack of respect?
Yan Mo remained silent throughout the journey.
When they reached the villa district where Lan Ze lived, Kochen let out a sigh of relief. At least the Lord hadn’t lashed out at him.
“Lord, we have arrived.”
“Mm. Thank you for the ride.”
Yan Mo opened his eyes and thanked Kochen as the subordinate opened the car door.
Kochen was overwhelmed by the gesture, his face turning a deep shade of red. He had met many Males, but this was the first time one had ever thanked him.
“Major General Lan Ze usually stays at the military base and only returns here on his days off. The Admiral has already notified him; he should be back soon.”
Yan Mo nodded casually. He wasn’t in any rush to meet the Major General.
Once the Male was safely delivered, Kochen left to report back to Lan Hechen.
The security in this villa district was top-notch, with an AI butler providing full-scale monitoring and protection. It was a safe haven for a Male.
When Yan Mo reached the entrance, the smart lock recognized his information and opened automatically.
The moment their guardianship was formalized, all of Lan Ze’s access permissions were opened to Yan Mo. He could enter any of Lan Ze’s properties without restriction.
Upon entering the villa, a round, roly-poly robot trundled toward him.
“Hello, Male Lord! I am the smart butler, Xiao Yuan. How may I serve you?”
Yan Mo circled Xiao Yuan with curiosity.
Xiao Yuan’s AI was highly advanced, far beyond anything Yan Mo had seen in his previous life. Sensing Yan Mo’s gaze, the robot’s round body turned pink, and a shy expression appeared on its display.
Amused, Yan Mo patted Xiao Yuan on the head. The pink deepened until the robot was almost red.
“Hello, Xiao Yuan. I am Yan Mo. Please take me to my bedroom.”
“Right away!”
Xiao Yuan hurried away from Yan Mo’s hand, leading him toward the second floor. If he kept petting it, the robot feared it might short-circuit!
Yan Mo followed Xiao Yuan to a room on the second floor.
Opening the door, he found a room with minimalist decor. The blankets were neatly folded on the bed, and the wardrobe was full of clothes. A delicate nightlight sat on the bedside table next to a few personal items.
Clearly, this room was occupied.
Yan Mo paused; this was likely Lan Ze’s bedroom. He rubbed his forehead awkwardly and looked at Xiao Yuan.
“This is Major General Lan Ze’s room, isn’t it? I can’t stay here. Are there any other empty rooms?”
Xiao Yuan spun in a circle, sounding puzzled. “The Lord is the Major General’s future Male Master; will you not be sleeping with him?”
“Ahem…” Yan Mo coughed awkwardly.
“There’s a room next door, right? It looks empty. I’ll just stay there.”
Avoiding Xiao Yuan’s question, Yan Mo quickly entered the adjacent room. It was another bedroom, seemingly unoccupied but fully furnished.
He sent Xiao Yuan to prepare some food and settled in to examine his new Light Brain.
Previously, he had been afraid to search too deeply for fear Yinuo might see his history. Now that he had his own device, he began to study the Zerg world in detail.
The more he learned, the deeper his frown became.
The Zerg world was incredibly distorted. The gender ratio was wildly skewed, and the status gap between Males and Females was staggering.
Females created everything, while Males contributed nothing, enjoying a life of luxury based solely on their gender and pheromones.
Because he was classified as a Male and Lan Ze was his guardian, Yan Mo could choose to make Lan Ze his Female Monarch or Attendant once he differentiated.
From the moment Lan Ze became his guardian, he ceased to be a free individual; all his assets fell under Yan Mo’s control. Furthermore, Lan Ze was responsible for protecting and caring for Yan Mo. Should anything happen to the Male, Lan Ze would face severe punishment from the Association.
Yan Mo found this inequality hard to believe. No wonder Major General Lan Ze hadn’t wanted to accept the guardianship.
But if Lan Ze was so unwilling, why had Admiral Lan Hechen forced the issue?
The Lan Clan was a prestigious family, and information about them was easy to find online. Yan Mo scrolled through reports of Lan Ze’s battles and news articles, and a theory began to form.
Lan Ze was an S-rank Female. The higher a Female’s rank, the stronger their combat power, but they were also more susceptible to mental pollution and required a Male’s pheromones for soothing.
Yan Mo watched a video of the strikingly handsome, cold-eyed Major General. It was a clip of him slaying interstellar beasts with clean, efficient movements and terrifying power. The video was a viral hit on the Star Net.
As an S-rank Female with the Lan Clan behind him, Lan Ze shouldn’t have struggled to find a Male partner despite the skewed ratio.
The problem was Lan Ze himself. He despised Males, having publicly rejected their advances multiple times and avoided them whenever possible.
