Zerg: Gloomy Major General, Stop Acting Obedient, My Head Hurts! Chapter 6

Chapter 6: Eating Grass

Jiang Xu sighed inwardly; it seemed he couldn’t escape this. “Ask.”

“Alright, alright. Thank you for your cooperation, Excellency.” Michelle was full of gratitude, fearing the other might say “come back in a few days” again.

“Since your marriage half a month ago, has your Cishi committed any transgressive behavior toward you?”

“Transgressive behavior?” According to what Fei had revealed, they had only been together for these past two days. And so far, it seemed his own behavior had been more “transgressive.” Although he hadn’t been the one to inflict the wounds all over the other’s body, the blame would ultimately be laid at his door now.

“Yes, such as being disrespectful, insufficiently obedient, or if you have any dissatisfaction with him,” Michelle explained.

“…” Jiang Xu replied, “None.”

Perhaps because he answered so decisively, both Michelle and the involved party, Fei, were somewhat stunned.

“Are you certain?” Michelle was quite surprised. He had a good idea of Jiang Xu’s reputation among the internal staff. He had already been surprised enough to see Fei open the door completely unharmed. This unhesitating answer was even more unexpected. After all, no matter how good a Xiongchong was, they would usually have some level of dissatisfaction with their Cichong.

Jiang Xu’s index finger tapped the sofa’s armrest rhythmically, not quite understanding the other’s surprise.

“What? Is this answer not acceptable?”

Michelle realized his reaction was inappropriate and quickly agreed, “It is, it is.” He picked up his pen and truthfully wrote “none” in the large blank space under the first question. This was the most concise answer he had ever written. The reason the recording area for this question was so large was entirely because the answers and opinions of Xiongchong were usually all over the place. Some would even insult them for not leaving enough space for them to express themselves.

After finishing, he continued to look at Jiang Xu. “Next question. What type of Cijun do you prefer?”

Jiang Xu’s hand paused. Why was there another unfamiliar title? Weren’t all Zerg wives called Cishi? Cijun? Were there also rank levels? The information that Cichong had given him only contained the term Cishi.

He helplessly pointed to Fei standing to the side. “Like him.”

As the words fell, all the remaining bugs in the room turned to look at Fei simultaneously. It was clear that Jiang Xu’s words had also come as a significant shock to him. However, judging by looks alone, he was indeed handsome. Whether it was his build or his face, he was top-tier even among Cichong. Unfortunately, his status was just a bit lacking.

“Mm, I see, alright.” Michelle picked up his pen again and made marks on the investigation record. “Then we will match a Cijun for you based on the type you prefer. We hope Excellency Jiang Xu will cooperate more at that time.”

Jiang Xu finally caught the flavor of this. The meaning of this question was that they were planning to introduce more Cichong to him.

“…”

He had never been this speechless. Hadn’t these two bugs only just married? Or did they take him for some kind of breeding bug? Jiang Xu realized once again that he wasn’t just “literacy blind”; he was also a “legal illiterate.”

“Is there anything else?”

“No, no.” Michelle put away the investigation report and stole a glance at the document in Fei’s hand. Getting one piece of paperwork back was better than nothing.

“Then we will come back in a few days to collect the document.” That investigation needed the Xiongchong to fill it out and sign it. Although he was very willing to do it on the man’s behalf, the other party didn’t seem particularly willing.

Jiang Xu gave a slight nod, and the two bugs quickly departed. Fei saw them to the door. Just before leaving, Michelle turned to Fei: “Major General Fei, you really have good luck. Excellency Jiang Xu is quite good to you.” After all, rumor had it that not a single Cichong had ever managed to get on that Xiongchong’s good side.

Fei said nothing, following silently beside them. That Xiongchong was good to him? Ha, it was just that the time hadn’t come yet. If he were truly good, would he have a part in it? He still had some self-awareness.

“Well, you should serve him well.” Michelle shook his head, seeing that the other didn’t take his words seriously. He gave a silent, mocking smile. “No need to see us out.”

Fei watched them board the hovercraft and then closed the door. When he returned to the living room, the bug who had been sitting on the sofa was gone. The newspaper and the investigation materials that were on the table had also vanished; presumably, the Xiongchong had taken them.

He guessed correctly; Jiang Xu had indeed taken them. When he went downstairs that morning, he had deliberately looked at the layout of the second floor and spotted a room that looked like a study. While Fei was seeing those two bugs out, he had taken the items up to the second floor. He had no choice; he was currently illiterate and desperately needed to learn.

Arriving on the second floor, he opened the door and saw it was indeed a study. He sat directly in the single leather chair at the desk and took out the newspaper Fei had read earlier. When the other was reading, he had deliberately memorized every single word of the articles. This was thanks to a skill he had developed during his school days.

He looked at a stack of white paper on the desk, pulled out two sheets, and managed to transcribe the content from start to finish from memory.

Fei stayed in his room quietly for the entire morning. Thinking that the Xiongchong hadn’t eaten breakfast, he prepared lunch early. However, he waited and waited but saw no sign of the Xiongchong coming downstairs. He had no choice but to go to the second floor to remind him to eat.

He looked at the closed bedroom door, hesitated for a few seconds, and then knocked directly. “Xiongzhu, please have lunch.”

Inside, Jiang Xu didn’t respond. He didn’t know if he should knock again. Just as he was hesitating, the door to the study nearby was opened from the inside.

Jiang Xu glanced at him and walked downstairs unhurriedly. Seeing this, Fei hurried to follow. Jiang Xu looked at the plate on the table and was satisfied. After all, it wasn’t all grass anymore, and he truly was hungry now.

“Since Xiongzhu didn’t eat breakfast, I wasn’t sure if the food wasn’t to your taste, so I took the liberty of adding some venison to lunch.”

Fei’s words sounded perfectly normal, but Jiang Xu didn’t know if he should swallow the meat he had just chewed. Venison! It was that venison he was thinking of, right!

Seeing his stiffened movements, Fei immediately knelt. “Many Xiongchong enjoy eating venison.” He stopped halfway through, feeling there was no need for explanation. He simply bowed low until his forehead touched the ground. “Please punish me.” It was his transgression.

Jiang Xu put down his knife and fork, took a napkin, and wiped his mouth. He looked at the bug beside him in a submissive posture, yet whose spine remained ramrod straight. It was as if he could bully the man at will.

“What did I say this morning?” He looked at Fei. Since the man didn’t want to kneel, why bother with this posture?

Fei’s body, which was prostrate on the floor, suddenly stiffened. Recalling what Jiang Xu had said that morning, he tentatively pushed up his upper body to look at him. Seeing that the other was truly not angry, he stood up.

“Next time, change the meat.” Jiang Xu set the meat on his plate aside and helplessly began “eating grass.” His greatest wish now was to be able to eat meat tonight. He hadn’t eaten anything since last night, and right now he desperately needed high-protein calories, not a bowl of grass.

Translator’s Note:

We get a peek into the hierarchy here with the terms Cijun (雌君) and Cishi (雌侍).

  • Cijun: The official husband/sovereign. Think of it as the “First Wife.”
  • Cishi: A lower-ranked husband/attendant. Think of it as a concubine. Poor Fei is “just” a Cishi, and the Association is already trying to push a “Main Wife” on Jiang Xu.

The drama is real! And about that venison—Zerg biology is weird, so meat can sometimes have… let’s say, aphrodisiac effects in these novels. No wonder Jiang Xu was hesitant to swallow!
