Chapter 14: Take Responsibility for Me

So what if he had seen Shi He wearing a bathrobe?

How could he be like this?

Ruan Zhimian’s misty eyes blinked slowly several times. His crow-feather eyelashes brushed against the gray bathrobe as he buried his small face to the side. After being touched, his snowy-white fingertips—clutched tightly by the Alpha—stayed restlessly and forced within that large, cool palm, struggling and curling up.

His soft, muffled voice drifted out from under the thin quilt. His snowy ear-tips, which weren’t fully covered, were flushed a faint red, looking like a stalk of red plum in a winter snowfield.

“I… don’t want to touch your abs… not even a little bit…”

The good boy, who had never been in a relationship, murmured softly, “I’m not swapping with you.”

He remembered the words from the phone call a few days ago quite clearly.

A certain Alpha lifted his eyelids, rolled the quilt, and tossed it aside. He glanced at the two straight calves revealed by the rolled-up pajama pants, which looked like jade fat.

“You won’t let me look?”

“Won’t you take responsibility for me?”

What kind of questions were these?

Immediately after, the black-haired, black-eyed man reached out his arm, tossed away the plush toy in the Beta’s arms, and pulled the person from the bed to sit on his lap.

That handsome, dark face was extremely close. His left hand pinched the back of the neck, his knuckles sliding down to land on the gland area. His thin lips slowly curled up. “Baby, am I the bad one?”

He sounded gentle, but if one looked closely into those deep, sickly eyes…

It was only terrifying.

However, Ruan Zhimian had drunk Chinese medicine before sleeping and had been busy all day; he was currently dizzy. The sense of exhaustion surrounding his body wouldn’t fade, and he still thought he was in a dream world, giving everything a sense of unreality.

“Clearly it’s you bullying me, yet you always want me to coax you.”

While accusing him in a soft voice, he reached out a finger to trace the Alpha’s features, like a docile little animal that didn’t know how to lose its temper. “Bad temper… even bullying people in dreams…”

It seemed he had quite a few grievances against him.

It was only adorable.

The Alpha lowered his head, his long, cold, white fingertips encircling the slender wrist.

As warm breath fell, he touched his nose against the soft, beautiful small face, his tone gentle and very gentlemanly. “I apologize to Mianmian.”

“Baby, it’s all my fault.”

Ruan Zhimian pursed his lips and forgave him incredibly fast. “I… I’m not that angry…”

The next second, Shi He unhurriedly blocked his lips. The gentle force vanished, and his right arm silently tightened around the waist.

Completely, nowhere to escape.

“You’re not angry anymore—can I kiss you?”

Outside the window, a heavy rain poured down.

This suddenly arriving rain seemed to also pelt down on Ruan Zhimian. He was wetted by tears, his fingers resting on the pillow lifting to almost obediently hug the Alpha’s neck.

“Gege…”

The vision before him became blurred because of the tears; he only remembered the Alpha’s cold profile, as if nothing could warm him.

The next morning, Ruan Zhimian was woken up by a knock on the door. He answered through the quilt, his small head poking out. At some point, his sleeping position had changed to… sleeping horizontally?

“Young Master, time to get up for breakfast.”

He picked up his phone and found that the call had hung up at 8:00 PM last night.

He had actually slept for nearly eleven hours.

Ruan Zhimian sat up. He rubbed his cheeks, and the moment he extended his leg to step onto the carpet to put on his shoes, the dream from last night flashed through his mind.

What?

What?

What?

Ruan Zhimian retreated, clutching the hem of his pajamas with his fingertips as he slowly squatted down.

No, impossible, it definitely wasn’t real. How could he have such a dream? Not even once in his past life…

Ruan Zhimian stayed by the bed for five minutes, trying to turn himself into a mushroom.

It wasn’t until the butler knocked again that he lifted that flushed small face. “Little Young Master, are you up?”

“I… I’ll be ready soon.”

Ruan Zhimian moved his steps, quickly washing his face and brushing his teeth.

Whew. People… in another world… it’s normal to have some strange dreams.

That’s right.

Ruan Zhimian went downstairs wearing a casual jacket. The butler was waiting for him at the elevator. “Young Master, Young Master Xubai has gone to the company. Young Master Teng Yu called just now but didn’t get through; he asked me to tell you that he has something to discuss with you at noon.”

The little young master pulled at his collar and nodded with extreme seriousness. “I understand.”

Then, he asked sneakily, “Is Shi He gone?”

The elevator stopped on the first floor. The butler pressed the door open button. “Young Master Shi?”

“I forgot to mention, Young Master Shi is currently on the first floor. He got up at 7:00 AM to exercise and is now waiting to dine with you.”

The elevator doors opened, and Ruan Zhimian ran straight into Shi He.

The Alpha was wearing yesterday’s white shirt, his long legs in black suit trousers stepping forward. He was wearing his hearing aid as he walked up to Ruan Zhimian.

The distance between them was only half a meter.

Probably having just showered after exercising, his black hair was damp, carrying the faint fragrance of body wash.

“Thank you for Young Master Ruan’s help yesterday.”

“It was a minor thing.” Ruan Zhimian looked randomly into the air beside him, his small face cautious. One look and it was clear he hadn’t forgotten the “dream” from last night. “Is your body better now?”

It wouldn’t do. The moment he met Shi He’s eyes, he couldn’t control himself from remembering those images.

“It doesn’t hurt anymore.”

Shi He lifted a paper bag; inside was his jacket, which had been washed along with his shirt and trousers last night. “I still have things to do at home, so I won’t stay to bother you. I’ll visit again next time.”

When Shi He got into the Shi family car, Ruan Zhimian stood before the floor-to-ceiling window on the second floor, watching the vehicle leave. His beautiful, clear eyes showed uneasy emotions.

Since waking up, he had been calling for Qiuqiu the whole time, but it didn’t appear.

In the dark, something invisible seemed to be changing.

Translator’s Note: Oh man, poor Mianmian is so confused! Was it a dream? Was it real? (We know the answer, hehe). Also, I love how Shi He is playing the “gentleman” while being a total fox. “Will you take responsibility for me?” Peak yandere behavior. Hope you enjoyed the chapter! See you in the next one where things get a bit more intense with the Shi family.
