The Straight Heartthrob: Ruthlessly Forced by a Madman Chapter 91

Chapter 91: So Much to Talk About

The police had already taken him away. Wen Yuhuai stared expressionlessly at the glass Fu Xingjian had drunk from.

There was nothing messy in the wine, just a bit of a stimulant he had used to create a distraction. The key was the bag of powder in his pocket. He knew the police would search him, and that bit of stuff was enough to land him in hot water.

But Fu Xingjian had discovered that bag in advance. If he hadn’t wanted to, he could have easily escaped before the police arrived.

Yet he chose to go with them voluntarily.

BAM—

The door was suddenly shoved open. Song Xingmian looked like he had run all the way up, his breathing uneven. “Brother, what happened? Why did the police come suddenly?”

Just then, he noticed one person was missing from the room. His eyes widened uncontrollably. “Did Brother… send Fu Xingjian in?”

Wen Yuhuai massaged his temples. He stepped back and sat on the sofa, letting out a tired sigh. “I wasn’t the one who sent him in.”

He had gone in of his own accord.

Song Xingmian was still confused, but Wen Yuhuai already spoke up. “That’s all for today. Go back early. I’m a bit tired.”

“…Okay. Then rest early, Brother.” Song Xingmian was naturally unwilling to part with him, but seeing Wen Yuhuai’s exhausted face, his heartache ultimately won out.

The door opened and closed. Wen Yuhuai sat quietly in the room for a while before pulling out his phone to call Gu Yanxiu.

“Hello.”

The other side didn’t speak, as if waiting for him to talk. Wen Yuhuai took a new glass, poured some wine, added two ice cubes, and took a sip. “Aren’t you waiting for my call? I’ve taken the initiative to call you, yet you’re silent?”

A laugh seemed to come from the other end. A slightly hoarse voice, accompanied by the sound of water, reached him. “I wouldn’t dare. I’m just too happy; I lost my head for a moment.”

Wen Yuhuai swirled the wine in his glass, the ice clinking against the sides. “Want to come out for a few drinks?”

There was a private hot spring pool on the balcony of the presidential suite. Gu Yanxiu had been soaking in it when the call came. He stepped out immediately, threw on a bathrobe, and continued the conversation while leaning against the railing.

“I’m coming. Of course I am. You’ve spoken; didn’t you leave me no room to refuse?”

Wen Yuhuai gave the location and hung up.

He really hadn’t wanted to seek him out again, but the current situation was impossible to read.

Fu Xingjian going in felt like he was intentionally playing along. Who knew how many days it could hold him? He might even come out perfectly fine tomorrow.

Yuhuai had a premonition that once the man came out again, it wouldn’t be minor squabbles like before. He had to secure enough backing for himself before then.

Gu Yanxiu didn’t take long to arrive. Wen Yuhuai had barely finished a few sips when he saw the man push the door open.

Perhaps because he left in such a hurry, he hadn’t had time to style his hair. It hung loosely over his forehead, making him look less like a slick old fox and more grounded and real.

Wen Yuhuai raised his glass toward him across the room. “You’re here.”

Gu Yanxiu curled his lips into a smile. “I am.”

The luxury stone walls reflected the fragmented light of the crystal chandelier above. Gu Yanxiu unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt and sat down across from him.

Wen Yuhuai poured a glass of wine and pushed it over. “Try this and tell me how it is.”

Gu Yanxiu took a sip and was generous with his praise. “Not bad.”

Wen Yuhuai poured himself another, lowered his glass slightly to clink against the other’s, and adopted a highly humble attitude. “I’m really sorry for calling Senior out so late.”

He didn’t mention their previous falling out at all, appearing willing to maintain the facade of peace. Gu Yanxiu naturally wasn’t willing to break it either. He drained the glass and said in a tender yet teasing tone, “Between the two of us, whenever you call, I’ll go anywhere.”

Wen Yuhuai smiled. He put down his glass and leaned back against the sofa, his beautiful almond eyes half-squinted as if he were drunk. “It seems my call today wasn’t in vain.”

Gu Yanxiu smiled along, knowing what Yuhuai wanted to hear, and took the initiative to start the topic. “So, are you in some trouble? Is there anywhere you need my help?”

Wen Yuhuai shifted back, slowly sitting up straight against the sofa. “There actually is.”

Gu Yanxiu didn’t pause for a second as he put down his glass, his expression unchanged. “Tell me then. I can’t let you treat me to wine for nothing today.”

Wen Yuhuai drummed his fingers carelessly on the table. “An hour ago, in this very room, Fu Xingjian was taken away by the police.”

Noticing the slight change in Gu Yanxiu’s expression, he added, “My doing.”

Gu Yanxiu opened another bottle of liquor. After pouring for himself, he poured a glass for Wen Yuhuai, praising him. “Impressive.”

He meant it. He truly hadn’t expected Yuhuai to send Fu Xingjian in twice. Even with Lin Shiyu helping, the result was still shocking.

Wen Yuhuai, however, wasn’t as happy as Gu thought. He let out an irritable “Tch” and finally offered a helpless smile. “I’m out of moves. You know that even if I send him in, it won’t hold him for long. Once he comes out, I’ll be the one in trouble.”

Gu Yanxiu slowly rubbed the rim of his glass with his thumb. “This isn’t Beijing. My influence here is limited, so I won’t have the connections to pull strings inside. But anything that can be solved with money isn’t a problem.”

Wen Yuhuai looked mollified by his words and clinked glasses with him again. “With Senior’s word, I can rest easy.”

By the time Wen Yuhuai finally returned home, it was nearly midnight. The living room was dark; he couldn’t see a thing. He fumbled along the wall for the light switch. When the lights came on, he saw Lin Shiyu sitting in the living room.

“Why aren’t you asleep yet?”

Lin Shiyu stood up, grabbed Yuhuai’s arm, and led him toward the sofa. “Sit here for a bit. I’ll go make some hangover soup for you.”

He didn’t mention a word about what happened tonight.

Wen Yuhuai had had a few drinks, but he wasn’t heavily drunk; his mind was still clear. “Don’t go to the trouble. Just pour me a glass of hot water.”

Lin Shiyu put down the apple and hawthorn he had been halfway through slicing. He poured a glass of water first and added a spoonful of honey.

Once that was done, he returned to the kitchen and unhurriedly started simmering the hangover soup.

He glanced sideways at the night sky outside, countess emotions swirling in his usually calm eyes.

He didn’t ask because he already knew everything that had happened tonight.

First Song Xingmian, then Fu Xingjian, and finally Gu Yanxiu appeared.

Gu Yanxiu arrived at 9:05 PM, but Yuhuai didn’t return until 11:55.

Two hours and fifty minutes. So much to talk about.
